You don't have to look far for real community — right here in West Michigan.
One of the hardest parts of vision loss is the isolation — feeling like nobody around you really understands what you're navigating. Here's where to find real community, right here in West Michigan, starting with us.
## Start With Our Community
Marlynn Vision Beyond Sight was built around exactly this — connecting people newly navigating vision loss with others who genuinely understand it, not from a textbook, but from lived experience. Whether you're looking for a one-on-one conversation, our newsletter for ongoing support, or just want to know what's out there, that's exactly what we're here for.
## More Resources in West Michigan
Beyond our own community, a few other organizations serve the region and are worth knowing about — especially for clinical low vision rehabilitation and statewide advocacy:
- **Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired (ABVI):** a long-established Grand Rapids nonprofit offering low vision rehabilitation, counseling, and peer support groups. (616) 458-1187 · [abvimi.org](https://www.abvimi.org)
- **Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired (MCBVI):** statewide chapters functioning as support groups and resource networks
- **National Federation of the Blind of Michigan (NFBM):** focused on independence and advocacy across the state
- **Michigan Parents of Children with Visual Impairments (MPVI):** specifically for families of children with vision loss
These organizations serve a valuable role — especially ABVI's clinical rehabilitation services — and we're glad West Michigan has them. Think of them as additional support alongside us, not instead of us.
## Community Events Are Support Too
Support doesn't only happen in a formal meeting room. Local events, like West Michigan Cane Quest, bring the community together in a lower-pressure, social setting.
## Whenever You're Ready, We're Here
There's no rush to jump into anything before you're ready, and no wrong way to find your people. Whether that's tomorrow or six months from now, we'll still be here, and we'll meet you exactly where you are when you're ready.
